Who is hosting this site: hosting, DNS and mail

>

Enter a domain to find out who hosts the site: the hosting provider and its network (ASN), which country the data center is in, who runs DNS and mail, and whether a CDN sits in front.

How we find out who hosts a site

The tool resolves the domain to its IP address and works out who that address belongs to: the reverse DNS name (PTR), the network (ASN) and its operator, and the country, using public routing data from Team Cymru. From the PTR and the network name it identifies the hosting provider where it can.

It also reads the NS records to name the DNS provider, the MX records to name the mail provider, and the response headers to detect a CDN (Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai, CloudFront, Sucuri and others), the web server software and the HTTP version. Finally it checks that the PTR name resolves back to the same IP (FCrDNS), which mail servers rely on.

How to read the result

  • CDN detected: the IP belongs to the CDN, not to the real hosting. The server behind it stays hidden, which is part of what a CDN is for.
  • Network operator and hosting can differ: many hosting companies rent servers in large data centers such as Hetzner or OVH.
  • Reverse DNS confirmed: the PTR name points back to the same IP. If it does not match, mail sent from this IP may be rejected.
  • DNS provider and email: who runs the domain's zone and who receives its mail. Both are often different from the web hosting.

Frequently asked questions

Can I find the real host of a site behind Cloudflare?
Not from public data, and that is by design: Cloudflare hides the origin IP. Sometimes MX records or other subdomains point to the original server, but there is no reliable way to see it.
Is it legal to check who hosts a site?
Yes. The tool uses public DNS and routing data that every connection to the site relies on. It is the standard way to report abuse to the right provider or to plan a migration.
Why is the country different from where the company is?
The country is where the IP's network is registered or located, not where the site owner or the hosting company is based.
